Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many people spend their time in the shelter of their homes, which has led to greatly increased use of the Internet, mainly for pragmatic reasons such as shopping, education, work from home, but also for the purpose of shortening the amount of time we could not use for socializing, attending events, traveling and the like.

Within the framework of fraud and fraud related to unfair business practices in the online sale of goods and services, an increase in these was detected among users of video-on-demand services or streaming video content. When the offer was flooded, the inattentive user found it more difficult to establish the authenticity of the providers and therefore found it easier to fall into the traps of presumptuous criminals.

EPC Austria, in cooperation with F&MA (Film und Musik Austria), has prepared a brochure, which is also a unique guide for the safe streaming of video content - Safer Streaming: Threats from illegal video on demand services and what can you do about it

It provides consumers with useful information that can help them to identify false or illegal providers or offers, as well as advice on how to take action in case they become victims of fraud.
